Milan triumph over Salernitana

AC Milan beat Salernitana 2-1 on Wednesday to retake the Serie A season. They are now within five points of Napoli, league leaders.

Rafael Leao’s first-half strike in Salerno by Sandro Tonali in Salerno brought the champions to 36 points. This closed the gap on Napoli, who will face Inter Milan at San Siro in the late match.

Milan is also five points ahead in third place of Juventus before their match against struggling Cremonese.

Federico Bonazzoli scored a goal for Salernitana with seven minutes left. Guillermo Ochoa, the new goalkeeper at the Stadio Arechi, made many saves to deny Milan an even greater margin of victory.

Tonali stated to Sky that “we were almost perfect” because they could have scored one or more goals to win more comfortably.

“We are aware of the importance and will defend the title until the last drop of sweat is left on the pitch.

Ochoa, a veteran Mexican international, moved to the club in southern Italy last month on 17 points and made his debut in the absence Luigi Sepe.

After skipping around the 37-year old, Ochoa made Leao miss with an early one on-one stop.

Tonali’s curling attempt was also saved by him just seconds before Tonali, an Italy midfielder, hit in first time to double the away team’s lead. His second goal of the season came in the 15th minute.
